TDR/WHO Call for Letters of Intent for Evidence Synthesis on Strategies for Implementing Interventions for Achieving MDGs 4, 5 or 6 as Part of the 2010/2011 Implementation Research Platform
Through this Call, WHO/TDR and other partners are inviting proposals to conduct or update existing systematic reviews from individuals and institutions in low and middle-income countries (LMIC). The reviews should focus on the synthesis of evidence on implementation strategies for Millennium Development Goals 4, 5 or 6, related to the following:
1.                Effectiveness of implementation strategies;
2.                Facilitators and barriers for implementing such strategies;
3.                Context in which implementation occurred;
4.                Inputs required for the implementation in terms of human, material and financial resources.
At the end of the project, each completed systematic review should be accompanied by a plain language evidence summary which can be easily understood by policy makers, and which can be used to prepare policy briefs. Potential review areas could include implementation or up-scaling of interventions to improve: quality of care; service delivery; access to services; retention of staff; task sharing (optimizing health worker roles); community innovations for prevention, care and referral; health financing.
Data Limite: 30 November 2010.

STRI Short-Term Fellowships
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institution (STRI) in Panama is the only bureau of the Smithsonian Institution based outside of the United States. It is dedicated to understanding biological diversity and tropical nature through research.

The Insitute's Short-Term Fellowship Program provides support to carry out short-term research projects in the tropics in areas of STRI research, under the supervision of STRI Staff Scientists and STRI Research Associates. Although focused primarily on graduate students, awards are occasionally given to undergraduate and postdoctoral candidates. STRI postdoctoral fellows may also serve as advisors, usually in collaboration with a staff scientist or research associate.

Data Limite: There are four deadlines per year: March 15, May 15, August 15 and November 15. Applicants will be informed of results approximately 6-8 weeks after the deadline. Home Page: http://www.stri.org/english/education_fellowships/fellowships/stri_programs.php

International Max Planck Research School for Molecular and Cellular Biology - International PhD Programme
The International Max Plank Research School for Molecular and Cellular Biology (IMPRS-MCB) is a joint international PhD Program of the Max-Planck-Institute of Immunobiology (MPI-IB) and the University ofFreiburg. The program provides outstanding students state-of the-art, research-oriented interdisciplinary training in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Immunobiology and Molecular Biology at the highest levels.

Research groups participating in IMPRS-MCB program focus on molecular and cellular biology and apply it to important questions of immunobiology and epigenetics. Twenty-five research groups are members of the IMPRS program, and they are affiliated to the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology or to the
University of Freiburg. Please find here more about all groups that are part of the IMPRS-MCB PhD program.
Data Limite: 15th December 2010.

Principal Research Fellowship - Tropical Medicine/Biomedical Science
The Wellcome Trust is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. Established in 1936 and with an endowment of around £10 billion, it is the UK’s largest non-governmental source of funds for biomedical research.

Principal Research Fellowships are the most prestigious of the Trust's personal awards and provide long-term support for researchers of international standing. Candidates will have an established track record in research at the highest level.
Data Limite: Applicants can express an interest in this award at any time. Interviews for new PRF awards will normally be held in June and December. Applicants should contact the WellcomeTrust preferably 18 months in advance of the requested award date. Home Page: http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/Funding/Biomedical-science/Funding-schemes/Fellowships/Principal-research-fellowships/

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Biological Sciences
The Postdoctoral Fellowships are funded from the Cambridge University’s residual share of Herchel Smith’s estate. Dr Herchel Smith hoped that these Postdoctoral Fellowships would become highly prestigious and attract the very best young researchers to Cambridge. The fields in which the Fellowships can be advertised fall mainly within the University's Schools of the Biological Sciences and the Physical Sciences in view of Dr Smith’s stipulation that the awards should be in the fields of Pure Mathematics, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and related fields in the Experimental Sciences.

The Schools determine each year the fields in which awards should be advertised and the Managers determine the number of Fellowships to be awarded in these areas depending on the strength of the field of applications. Between 4 and 7 awards are made each year.

The Managers of the Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Fund invite applications for three Fellowships in the fields of Computational, Mathematical, Synthetic or Systems Biology to be held in a Department in the School of the Biological Sciences at the
University of Cambridge.
Data Limite: The closing date for applications is 26 November 2010.

Individual PhD Sandwich Scholarship Programme ITM-DGDC - Call 2010
The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) offers doctoral programs in fields ranging from molecular biology to health systems research, in collaboration with Belgian and foreign universities. The actual doctoral degree is awarded by the university, following public defence of the thesis. Each PhD student is jointly supervised by an ITM supervisor and a university supervisor or a supervisor from the student’s home institution, in case of a sandwich PhD. The research work takes place at the ITM and/or in the field. The doctoral research and course work will typically take four years. The program curriculum consists mainly of a comprehensive original research project, resulting in a thesis based on one’s own publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Depending on the university, course work is optional and tailored towards the individual needs of the candidates.

Currently, around 100 doctoral students are working on their PhD at the ITM. Half of them are from developing countries and completing a sandwich program, with activities that are divided between the ITM and their home country. Several project-related PhD sandwich scholarships are provided under the ITM-DGDC Framework Agreement. In addition, each year the ITM offers a few ‘individual’ sandwich PhD scholarships for alumni.
Data Limite: The deadline for submission is 30 November 2010.
